Directions to Flamingo Beach & Playa Potrero

The trip from San Jose to the beach takes around five to six hours, about twenty minutes less from the international airport. Best time to leave is early in the morning between 6 a.m. and 7a.m.

You follow the Pan American highway, a mostly two laned road that goes from North to South. Go north from San Jose, following signs for "Frontera Nicaragua” and Liberia. You will go through the Central Valley the first hour, then the mountains the next hour. Then an hour of rolling flatlands where you will go passed the sugar cane fields on your way to Liberia.

Two good restaurants on the way are the Rincon Corobici, along side a river about 60km before Liberia in a little city called Canas, and Bramadero, a steakhouse, off the main cross roads in Liberia. Gas up the car in Liberia at the intersection with the two gas stations and the Burger King. This is also where you turn left to head to Flamingo and Potrero. Then you pass the airport of Liberia.

From the airport of Liberia

As you leave the Liberia airport, turn right on the main road toward Filadelfia and Tamarindo. From this entrance at the Liberia airport go west, through the town of Filadelphia, 27,5 km to the town of Belen where you look for a gas station at an intersection.

At the gas station in Belen, turn right, or west, (turn just before the gas station) and proceed 4.0km to a T intersection and Stop sign in the small village of Santa Ana. Turn left at this stop sign and go 20,0 km thru the rural farm country, over a small pass to the town of Huacas. There is no sign that tells you that you are actually in Huacas.

From Huacas bear right toward Flamingo, not left to Tamarindo. Look for the SuperCompro grocery store on your right.

Go 1,0km and make a sharp right toward Flamingo, not straight which takes you to Playa Grande. It’s easy to miss this turn so watch for the signs.

Go 5.0km to the Happy Snapper Restaurant in the town of Brasilito. Just pass the Happy Snapper, turn 90 degrees right toward Flamingo Beach.

Go 3.9km and look for the Supermarket ´Super Massai`on the right hand side. At the second entrance after the Supermarket you will see the green sign of Tropical Homes of Costa Rica. We are located in the Hotel Guanacaste Lodge Suite #1. Turn right into the parking and the office is straight ahead.
